MAKKAH: A number of people of Makkah have complained of negligence by salons during rush hours. They say that hair is scattered over the floor of the salons and that prices in both salons and laundries have more than doubled. Allegations have also been made that salons and laundries are not complying with health regulations..
Loay Ashoor, chairman of a local civic body, said that several teams have been formed for monitoring these businesses. They will ensure that health standards are not compromised and that the environment is not harmed. He said that the monitoring is underway and that several salons and laundries had been closed because of violations.
Mohammad Al-Zahaimi, a Saudi, alleged that when he recently went to a salon, he was surprised to see hair everywhere on the floor and he noted a general lack of cleanliness. When he asked the person in the salon, the man said that this was due to the rush which did not allow time for cleaning.
Al-Zahaimi said that the price of haircuts had increased three times during the last few days. The worker at the salon said that this was due to Eid as this was the most convenient way to make more money.
Hamdan Al Ahamadi, another Saudi, alleged that when he went to a laundry, he noted that clothes were piled on top of clothes in a very unorganized manner. There was a lack of hangers and places to hang the clothes. In addition, the price list was not displayed
